Get to Know Dr. Leah Byars
How Did You Become Interested in Dentistry?
Dr. Byars is a true Northern Virginia native. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology from The University of Virginia and a master's degree in microbiology and infectious diseases from George Mason University. She then earned her dental degree at the NYU College of Dentistry. She believes in the importance of evidence-based dentistry and participates in continuing education to stay at the forefront of dental advancements.
Known for her attention to detail and calm, reassuring manner, Dr. Byars strives to make each visit as stress-free as possible. She wants to make sure her patients are comfortable and confident at all times and is dedicated to ensuring that every patient receives the highest level of care.
How Did You Become Interested in Dentistry?
Dr. Byars originally became interested in dentistry in the 5th grade after visiting her orthodontist. She later worked as a dental assistant and liked how general dentistry has a wide scope and can solve many issues. She also liked how it combines medicine, artistry, and hands-on technical skills. Every day, she dedicates herself to helping people improve their health, overcome their fears, and be able to eat comfortably and smile confidently.
Dr. Byars has committed to ongoing education throughout her 15+ year dental career. She is a certified Invisalign provider, has training in Bioclear techniques, and has gained extensive experience in endodontics, cosmetic bonding, and oral surgery (including simple extractions, surgical extractions and bone grafting).
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
When she isn’t spending time with family and friends, Dr. Byars enjoys trying new restaurants, traveling, and being an avid fan of UVa sports (go Hoos!).
Fun fact: She served as a lifeguard for 10 years!
